Being the resident curmudgeon (Curmudgeon = Cranky old guy…Stan might be older, but he’s never cranky, therefore gpawn is the resident curmudgeon.) at Glendale Pawn and Jewelry, it’s only normal that gpawn is considered to be the “Andy Rooney” of pawn shop bloggers. I actually take this comparison as an extreme compliment, because gpawn is nowhere near Andy Rooney’s legendary status and in all probability will never even be remotely associated with one of the greatest journalists that this country ever produced.
Now for those of you who don’t know who Andy Rooney was, let’s just say he was the original, “Cranky old guy”…although he didn’t start out that way…kind of like all us “Cranky old guys”…it just sort of evolved. Andy began his journalism career as a front-line reporter during WWII. He later wrote a series of bestselling books and ended his career as a commentator for the CBS News Program “60-Minutes”…a position he held for oh…about thirty years? Andy passed away on November 11th, 2011, shortly after “retiring”. (There is a major thought process amongst “Cranky old guys” that if you never retire…well; you just might not ever die?)

Andy sometimes started his CBS segments with, “Have you ever wondered?” and then he would launch into a brilliant diatribe on just about anything that happened to irritate him.
So, with the deepest respect, gpawn would like to entertain you with this latest posting, as Andy Rooney might have written it. What’s Andy’s topic for this segment? How about the state of American business today?

Have you ever wondered…why anybody would choose to do business with a large, faceless corporation? I mean really…they have absolutely no idea who you are. You’re a number and that is all you amount to. Some of these corporations are so huge they could qualify as a large country. One well known gigantic retailer has annual sales that would surpass many industrialized countries. These organizations have even developed their own languages. How about trying this on as an example:
“We will continue to manage highly effective knowledge tools for today’s capital-based e-consumers.”
Or perhaps this…
“We will help to enable advanced knowledge portals for today’s virtual organizations.”
(What does this mean? Can anyone translate this?)
There’s even one of those “On-line phrase generators” that will crank out stuff like this at the touch of a button. Don’t believe me?
