Revisited: “Pawn shops…uh…don’t they have kind of a…reputation?

(Return to arizonapawnshops.com)

In one of our very first blog posts, we touched on the following statement:

“Pawn shops…uh…don’t they have kind of a…reputation?” (April 28, 2011)

Our reply at that time, very early in our blogging career, consisted partly of:

The short answer is…yes. The longer answer is yes. The truth is…most of the proverbial “reputation” that pawn shops carry is fostered by people who have never used the services of a really good, community focused pawn shop, such as Glendale Pawn & Jewelry

Some 22+ blog posts later, we continue to stand by this statement and we’ve chosen today to elaborate on exactly why we believe that really good, community focused pawn shops have been an asset to our society and a genuine benefit to our communities.

Everyone is aware that we are in the “Recession that seems to be going on forever” and that it’s really hard “Out there”. The staff and owners of Glendale Pawn and Jewelry pay the same price for gasoline, groceries and utilities as everyone that is presently reading this posting. We have families, kids in school, rent, mortgages, car payments…and all of the economic challenges that everyone faces…on a daily basis.

We know what it’s like, “Out there”…and we have great empathy for those who are just trying to “Ride it out”. Trust us, we bought gas on the way to work, we were at the grocery store last night, we opened our mail at home…we know full well.

Here are some facts for those who believe that pawn shops have kind of a…”reputation”:

There are a LOT of very good, hard working people that through absolutely no fault of their own, took a very large and painful economic blow during this recession. They did everything right, did everything according to moral principles that had been instilled in them since birth and STILL suffered a major economic set-back. This has resulted in damage to credit scores that until the recession…were absolutely flawless.

Glendale Pawn and Jewelry has made thousands of loans to people who needed cash quickly in order to take care of such things as medical expenses, car repairs and unexpected needs. These loans were made without a credit check and usually within minutes. These transactions were handled in a very professional manner by our staff who believe that respect, compassion and service to our customers are the reasons we are here.

When reduced income, due to the recession or other influences has caused people to take a look at their “stuff” and determine that there was a lot of “stuff” that just wasn’t needed, Glendale Pawn and Jewelry was there to help. We have purchased outright, a huge amount of unwanted items from people who needed to apply the money to school supplies, household repairs and unexpected events that required quick cash to resolve.

Shoppers, who have been impacted by this recession and yet still want to have quality items for their homes and families have collectively saved thousands of dollars by purchasing tested and guaranteed home entertainment items, electronics, collectibles, musical instruments, firearms…and made less of an impact on our environment in the process.

Glendale Pawn and Jewelry has given back to our community by donating musical instruments to the Ear Candy Charity and we have also donated to Heart for the City, which helps the children of Glendale achieve their dreams and live life to the fullest.

So is all of this a recent development? Not really, Glendale Pawn and Jewelry has been serving the community for more than 25 years.

With regards to this, “Recession without end” We didn’t invent Mortgage Backed Derivatives, Hedge Funds or Adjustable Rate Mortgages. But we’ve seen what’s happened since their invention. We didn’t insure our bets with an enormous insurance company.

We chose to insure our investments by believing in the people who come through our door, or join us online. By the way, there is no private jet with “GP&J” painted on the tail, idling for us on the tarmac at Sky Harbor International Airport, but that’s really not our style anyway. Instead, we take those “Jet funds” and give out free candy to kids of all ages that come to our pawn shop.

We’ve been busy investing in families, kids, older folks and helping people get the cash they need or helping them save a lot of money on the things they need. Our success is measured in the number of people we’ve helped and by this measurement of success we have outperformed some of the biggest names on Wall Street…every…single…day.

So the answer to the question, “Pawn shops…uh…don’t they have kind of a…reputation?” is certainly from our blog-view, “Yes they sure do and we’re very proud of ours”
