Don’t forget this one okay? Now we all know that the penalty for not remembering Mother’s Day is pretty severe…in fact most of us only forget it once. However if you forget Father’s Day, chances are he’s just going to go on about his business, mowing the yard, washing the car and fixing the things that have fallen apart, etc. No big deal. Or in the past perhaps you’ve gotten the “Old Man” something really thoughtful like a new weed trimmer, or something that he has to assemble and install…right?

Take a look at the group of happy people in the stock photography collection below:

For the most part the dads that show up in stock photography are happy people and for the most part in real life dads are happy people. We love our kids and our families, we work hard to support the “homestead” and that’s really what we’re all about. We try diligently to always “be there” for our kids because believe it or not…we were kids once too.

Oh by the way…if you happen to be a daughter we were also there for you when:

1)      You were a teenager and you introduced us to the most recent  “Love of your life”…a young gentleman with a look in his eye that is universal to ALL fathers of daughters. Fortunately these candidates for our daughter’s affections instinctively understand the sound of a 12 gauge shotgun being racked up.

2)      The night you uh…missed your curfew…and we were reminded of this fact by the local law enforcement agency via a 2:00 a.m. phone call.

3)      That time that you announced that your car was not “running very well”…and it turned out there was no oil in the engine crankcase.

Ahhhhh, but we always loved you regardless.

Oh by the way…if you happen to be a son we were also there for you when:

1)      We asked the question…”What happened to all the food in the refrigerator…it appears to have vanished?”, and we were met with that wonderful teenage male look of….”Who? Me?”

2)      We asked the question…”I seem to be missing a bottle of VERY good brandy from the liquor cabinet, the trash can in the alley is FULL of…uh…”aluminum cans” and somebody’s undergarments seem to be hanging from the hedge…it seems all this took place while your mother and I were gone for the weekend?”, and we were met with that wonderful teenage male look of….”Who? Me?”

3)      We asked the question…”How did the car get into the driveway…when there is absolutely no fuel in the vehicle?”, and we were met with that wonderful teenage male look of….”Who? Me?”

Ahhhhh, but we always loved you regardless.

So boys and girls, this Father’s Day let’s do it right…shall we?

Here are some things that your Dad would REALLY enjoy:

A great Father's ring, inscribed with "Dad" on both sides. Very tasteful and certain to become an heirloom. He'll wear it with pride!

Speaking on behalf of the majority of Dad's...ohhhhhhhhhh....ahhhhhhhhhh

You know in your heart he deserves this...Glendale Pawn and Jewelry can make it happen.

These days families come in all kinds of configurations. Single parents, blended families, guardians…and it’s all good. The universal and uniting factor in all of this is that hopefully there was somebody there for you. Somebody believed in you. Somebody cheered you on and was proud of you. If your Dad is no longer with us, honor someone  else’s  father or a person who had a positive influence in your life. It’s not always about gender. Role models who step into the role of “Father” can be anyone who looked out for your well being, provided a positive example…and picked you up when you skinned your knees.

NOTE TO ALL THE FATHERS OF TEENAGERS:  gpawn is the voice of experience on this. Trust me.  Hang in there. You can make it. Someday they’ll give you grand-kids and then…PAYBACK TIME!

Once again…Thanks for stopping by,

gpawn (Also known as “Dad”)
